Overview

Electronic recycling, or e-cycling, is crucial for managing e-waste by facilitating the reuse and recovery of materials while minimizing environmental harm. Recycling events, like the one hosted by Williamsport Rotary, offer communities a chance to responsibly dispose of unused electronics, supporting sustainability and benefiting local charities.

How many old cell phones, laptops or desktop computers do you have sitting in your storage room, basement or closet? Instead of keeping them and allowing them to collect dust, consider the eco-friendly alternative— electronic recycling.

What is Electronic Recycling?

Electronic recycling, also known as e-cycling, involves collecting and processing electronic waste (e-waste) for reuse or material recovery. This process guarantees that valuable materials are reclaimed, hazardous substances are managed responsibly, and the environmental impact of electronic waste is minimized. E-waste includes items like old computers, cell phones, printers, and radios that are no longer in use.

Recycling electronics is more than a responsible choice; it's a necessary one. The improper disposal of e-waste can lead to severe environmental issues. Electronics contain toxic materials such as lead and mercury, which can leach into the soil and water, posing threats to ecosystems and human health. By recycling, we mitigate these risks and contribute to a cleaner environment.

Mark Your Calendars for the Williamsport Rotary Event

Speaking of recycling… James Haywood, Intrada’s Senior Project Manager and past President of Williamsport Rotary would like to inform you about an upcoming event that you should mark on your calendars.

The Williamsport PA Rotary is hosting an electronics recycling event, offering a convenient way for the community to responsibly dispose of their old gadgets. This event is open to the public and encourages residents to recycle their unused electronics instead of sending them to landfills.

The two-hour event will take place at 641 Walnut St, Williamsport, PA. It's an excellent opportunity to clear out your home or office of unwanted electronics while supporting a great cause. Plus, all proceeds from your participation will benefit local nonprofit organizations in Williamsport and Lycoming County.

What You Can Recycle

Various electronic items, including computers, laptops, cell phones, printers, radios, and tablets, will be accepted during the event. It's important to note, however, that certain items, such as TVs, washers, dryers, microwaves, and CRT monitors, will not be accepted. Contact the event organizers for clarification if you're unsure about an item. A minimum donation of $5 is appreciated, with all proceeds supporting local nonprofits.

The event is organized by the Williamsport Rotary in partnership with KVS Computers in Hughesville, an R2 Certified Electronics Recycler. This certification ensures that your e-waste is handled with the utmost care and that nothing ends up in the landfill, aligning with the goal of reducing environmental impact.
