Intrada Technologies Attends ShmooCon 2023

As cybersecurity continues to become a growing concern in the digital age, Intrada Technologies makes sure team members attend ShmooCon each year. ShmooCon is an annual three-day conference that brings together cybersecurity experts from around the world to share ideas and best practices for defending against malicious threats.

Intrada's Nay Win and Jaxson Engelman at Shmoocon

Broadway-themed ShmooCon 2023 took place on January 20th – 22nd at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. Intrada Technologies was excited to have four team members attend this year Jaxson Engelman, Nay Win, Jennifer Daniel, and Eric Greco.

The conference offered a variety of talks on cybersecurity, privacy, and hacker culture. While the primary purpose of the conference is to understand better the ever-changing cybersecurity landscape and how it can help keep our clients’ websites safe, it is also an excellent opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and learn about the latest trends in information security.

Our team members scanned the expo floor, attended talks and events, participated in complex puzzles, technically-advanced scavenger hunts, various challenges, and networked with peers and fellow attendees. They also had the chance to talk to some of the top security professionals in the industry and learn more about their work. With so much knowledge to gain at ShmooCon, our team was inspired and equipped with new strategies to help us better protect our clients’ websites.

While each team member attended different talks, some favorites were among them. For example, Jaxson learned a lot from Advanced Persistent Threats from China; Nay enjoyed the Social Engineering seminar; Jennifer was very interested in learning more from Open-Source Vulnerability.

Close to 2,000 cybersecurity and information technology professionals attended this annual event created by the Shmoo Group. The Shmoo Group is a non-profit think-tank comprised of security professionals worldwide who donate their free time and energy to information security research and development. In addition, the Shmoo Group gives back to the community each year. They donate proceeds from their conference t-shirt sale to several non-profits, including the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

The extremely popular conference sells out each year. This year, the event sold out in 22.76 seconds. The waitlist filled up 2.16 seconds after all tickets were sold. The team at Intrada Technologies greatly appreciated the opportunity to attend ShmooCon 2023, as their involvement allowed them to strengthen their knowledge base further and develop better solutions for protecting our clients from potential cyberattacks. We thank the Shmoo Group for its hard work in creating such an amazing event each year. As the digital landscape evolves and new threats emerge, Intrada Technologies remains dedicated to providing its customers with the most advanced cybersecurity tools available.

While Jaxson has attended several conferences before this year, this was Eric, Jennifer, and Nay’s first ShmooCon. Before leaving the conference, they each put the 2024 conference date on their schedules and are looking forward to attending again. They were all impressed with the variety of topics discussed, the wide range of speakers and their knowledge, as well as the opportunity to network with other professionals in the field. It was a great experience for everyone involved.
