The online gaming market has grown tremendously over the last decade and continues to do so. The increase in popularity of video games has driven the esports market to mainstream. Middle schools, high schools, colleges, and universities have witnessed the growing trend, and many have created dedicated esports programs within their offered clubs or curriculums, but most haven’t.
What is esports?
Esports is not just playing video games.
It is organized competitive gameplay between two teams with a set of rules and guidelines. Like traditional sports, esports helps students develop lifelong skills like communication, strategic thinking, leadership, and teamwork. According to nsba.org, students who join esports programs have better attendance (+10%) and earn better grades (GPA +1.7).
